Overcomer Success Stories // words from donors

J. Fernandez // OVERCOMER

Thank you very much for your help with the payment of my electricity bill, I was really worried about not being able to pay it, because I am recovering from a breast reconstruction surgery, after a double mastectomy and having fought against stage II breast cancer. Thank you very much and God bless you !!

M. ZEPEDA // Overcomer

To Mary and the rest of the COC family, I would like to say a big thanks for everything you did for our family while I battled 2.5 years of stage 2 breast cancer, ended up having a double mastectomy, going through chemo and raising 5 kids on very little income due to my husband being disabled . We only receive $1,100 from SSI for the both of us and we fell way behind on everything. I was so blessed to have found Mary and the COC. They helped me so much while I was battling for my life 3 times due to staph infections and at one point I was placed in a medical coma. Mary and the COC have helped me with bills and even assisted with fixing my van that was SO unsafe for my kids to be in. When I first met Mary I knew I really loved her… she even got my kids Christmas gifts. I just want to again say a big thanks to everyone at the COC!!

While I was fighting prostate cancer the COC came to my family's aid and helped us by paying our rent. I didn't think anyone could help us with the $600 we needed. God bless this organization. They really do help!

The COC is an organization that is extremely underrated when it comes to the world of Cancer. They are unique from other cancer organizations in the fact that they actually help THE PATIENTS and their directly affected families through support, education, advocacy, and financial assistance to help ease the financial burden of those battling for their lives. The funds they raise are NOT raised for research and do not join in on further enabling this debilitating disease to remain lucrative for pharmaceutical companies and the administrators' pockets.

The CEO and face of the COC Miss Mary Jenkins is a 2x breast cancer survivor and has used her experiences to passionately help others going through what she herself has went through and endured.

I will continue to support the mission of this organization 100% and I would highly recommend for others to do the same!!

This is the rare charity that does not have an expensive leadership team and expensive marketing. They actually care about the people they are working to help. I love the way this organization uses money to help PEOPLE in treatment!!! My regular donations come out of my paychecks and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Please join me in making sure PEOPLE aren't forgotten while society searches for a cure.

I do have cancer, a rare form of lymphoma. I've had it now for 4 years, started in my lungs and had to have back to back black to back lung surgeries. My cure, as my first oncologist told me, I was good to go for 20 years, lasted 6 months!!!! I met Mary at one of our group fundraiser, for her foundation. It was not until later, that I learned the truth about these big foundations, livestrong who sent out 2 nice binders filled with information And in the back how to get financial help. Not one word about the COC!!! Same with lymphoma society, and the others, but I have seen the forwarded envelopes to the COC…

Where to begin on describing this organization. First and foremost it is lead from the heart. With most "cancer fundraisers" it's important to know how the money you give is being used. The COC without a doubt helps those in immediate need of personal essentials and just plain ole day to day living--NOT RESEARCH! I give to the COC as much as I can--it makes the heart feel good :)
